Three buses destroyed in Paignton bus station 'arson attack'

Three buses have been destroyed in a suspected arson attack at a bus station in south Devon.

Fire crews were called to the station in Paignton at about 04:25 BST after reports of a loud explosion.

Two double-decker buses and one single-decker were destroyed at the site in Dartmouth Road, Devon and Cornwall Police said.

Nearby roads were closed, and bus operator Stagecoach said said the buses were left "completely burnt out".

Police and fire officers have begun a joint investigation into the cause.

The incident was being treated as suspected arson, police said.

Stagecoach said no-one was believed to have been injured and there was no damage to the depot building.

The company was to help investigators by supplying CCTV footage, it said.

Vehicles were brought in from Exeter to cover and a full service was operating, it added.
