Teenagers rescued on River Dart after boat engine fails

Six teenagers have been rescued after getting into difficulties when they took a boat out on a river in Devon.

Coastguards were alerted to the vessel at about 02:40 BST, near the Lower Ferry slipway at Dartmouth on the River Dart, after it suffered engine failure.

Two of the teenagers tried to swim ashore but could not make it and swam back to the boat again.

The Dart lifeboat was dispatched to get them to safety and they were assessed by paramedics after returning to shore.

Members of a coastguard team gave the group safety advice, Brixham Coastguard said.
