Ivybridge underpass closed after flooded sewer leaks human waste

Part of an underpass under the A38 at a Devon town has been fenced off because of a leaking sewer which overflowed as a result of recent heavy rain.

South West Water said it had tried to clear up the mess at Ivybridge, including human waste, several times, but persistent heavy rain over several days had caused problems.

It apologised for the inconvenience and distress caused by the leak.

A thorough clean-up was expected to finish over the next two days, it said.
