A woman was rescued from the roof of her car after she became stranded in flood water in south Devon.

The woman's car came to a halt in 2ft (60cm) of water at Loddiswell near Kingsbridge on Thursday evening.

Fire crews from Kingsbridge, Modbury and Plymouth used an inflatable boat to rescue the woman who had climbed on to the roof to escape the rising waters.

Crews later towed her car out of the flood water which has affected the River Avon valley.

More heavy rainfall is forecast in Devon and Cornwall on Friday and the Met Office has put a yellow warning in place until midnight.

The Environment Agency has flood alerts in Barnstaple, Braunton, Ilfracaombe and Combe Martin.
