Buckfastleigh Post Office ram-raid gang hunted

A gang who rammed a Post Office in Devon and tried to steal its cash machine is being hunted.

Devon and Cornwall Police said the gang attacked the Post Office in Buckfastleigh at about 03:00 BST.

They attached a wire rope to a stolen Land Rover and tried to pull out the cash machine, but were challenged by local people woken up by the noise.

A 17-year-old man has been arrested, but police are searching for two or three other people who escaped on foot.

A police spokesman the Land Rover used by the gang had been stolen earlier from the Ipplepen area.

Anyone who had wire rope stolen overnight has been asked to contact police.
