Teenager dies after A361 road collision in Devon

A teenager from the West Midlands involved in a car crash in north Devon has died in hospital.

Craig Sankey, 18, from Coventry, was in a Renault Clio car which collided with a VW Transporter van on the A361 between Aller Cross and West Buckland on Thursday evening.

He was taken to North Devon District Hospital with critical injuries but died on Saturday, police said.

The van driver suffered a suspected fractured sternum and whiplash.

An off-duty special constable who was passing by stopped to assist after the collision, putting out a small fire in the car with a hand-held fire extinguisher, police said.

The road was closed for seven-and-a-half hours for a police investigation.
