A new £46.5m sports centre has opened to the public in Plymouth.

The Life Centre includes a 10-lane, 50m swimming pool, diving pool, multi-purpose sports hall, 15m climbing wall and bowling area.

It was formally opened by Plymouth City Council leader Vivien Pengelly on 22 March and opened to the public on Saturday.

It will become the training centre for Olympic divers Tom Daley and Tonia Couch.

Daley's coach, Andy Banks said: "We're hoping to have people coming to the centre from all over the country to make some great divers in the future."

On Monday it was announced that the Olympic torch would visit the centre on 19 May as part of the Olympic torch relay.
