Council patrols warn smokers of littering in Devon

Smokers who drop cigarette butts in Devon are being targeted by specific council patrols in the lead-up to Christmas.

A team from Torridge District Council will be warning smokers they could face a £75 fine if they are caught dropping cigarette butts.

Patrols will occur during prime drinking times in a bid to keep towns and villages clean, a spokesman said.

The fine is a "last resort" and can be issued by the patrol team, he added.
