The Conservatives have retained control of a Derbyshire village after a by-election.

The local council vote in Swanwick was postponed after the sudden death of Tory candidate Patricia Lynne Watson shortly before the elections.

The winning candidate was announced on Thursday night as David Wilson.

Labour remains in charge of Amber Valley Borough Council. It took control of the authority from the Conservatives in May.

Mr Wilson took 474 votes; Labour's Antony Tester got 298; Independent George Soudah took 252 votes; Allen King for UKIP 245; and Joel Hunt for the Liberal Democrats received 32 votes.
