Legal proceedings have been started in a bid to remove travellers encamped on a busy Derby car park.

About 40 caravans and other vehicles moved onto the Park and Ride site at Pride Park at the weekend.

The city council said it had served a court order but admitted it could take up to three weeks if the travellers did not co-operate.

But officials said the group had indicated they intended to go within the next few days.

The car park lies between Derby County Football Club's iPro stadium and the new Derby's new £28m velodrome, which is due to open next year.
