A Christmas crackdown on drugs has seen 20 people arrested in one week in a small Derbyshire town.

Police said they hope to prevent a repeat of two apparent drug deaths in Buxton and nearby Chapel-en-le-Frith last December.

Cash, substances believed to be class A drugs and five vehicles were seized during the raids in Buxton this week.

Dale Yates, 18, and Charlotte Woodiwiss, 20, died shortly before Christmas 2012.

Det Insp Shaun McElheron said: "We do not want to see a repeat of last year's tragic deaths.

"We are determined to make life difficult for people who choose to sell drugs in and around Buxton pubs."

In a blog post shortly before her death, Ms Woodiwiss said she was studying art and in the last year of her degree course.

She was found dead at a flat in her home village of Chapel-en-le-Frith on 22 December.

Dale Yates, 18, from Buxton, was found dead at a flat on Eagle Parade in the town on 23 December.

Staff from the National Crime Agency were involved in this week's raids, Derbyshire police said.

The 20 suspects were arrested on suspicion of being involved in the supply of controlled drugs.
