Royal Derby Hospital: Surgical glove left inside patient

A surgical glove was left inside a patient following an operation.

Sharon Birks, 42, from Wirksworth, Derbyshire, had a hysterectomy at the Royal Derby Hospital on 19 November.

The mother-of-six said she found the glove three days later. She told the Derby Telegraph that she felt like something had dropped inside her body.

Derby Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust has apologised for the distress caused and said a full investigation was under way.
