Derbyshire man 'critical' after farm accident

A Derbyshire man has been left in a "critical condition" following a farm accident in Flagg, near Buxton.

The man, believed to be in his 60s, was taken to hospital in Staffordshire following the incident, which involved a piece of machinery.

Police were called to the farm at 12:30 BST on Thursday.

They are working with health and safety officers to investigate the accident, which they are not treating as suspicious.

    10:48: Ancient pole is to be replaced due to rotting Derbyshire Times

    Stanage Pole, one of the Peak District National Park's most recognisable landmarks, is to be replaced.

    The top section of the historic marker - referred to as Stanedge Pole on Ordnance Survey maps - had to be removed for safety reasons after the wood rotted. Discussions have now begun to find the best way to replace the entire structure.

    The Highways Agency says it has opened a lane on the M1 northbound to start letting through traffic that became stuck when a vehicle fire blocked the whole carriageway between J28 and J29.

    It says motorists are facing delays of about an hour, with queues stretching back to J27.

    The pregnant girlfriend of a man who was killed after a parking barrier swung into his car says she has received incredible support from family and friends.
