Watersafe UK volunteers to embark on 999 sea challenge

19 July 2013 Last updated at 21:29 BST

Volunteers for charity Watersafe UK are preparing for their latest fundraising challenge - to travel around Britain in a boat in nine days, nine hours and nine minutes in September - the ninth month of the year.

The hope is the 999 challenge, which will be a 2,000 mile trip, will raise £20,000 in funds for the waterways rescue charity.

Founder and fireman Nigel Cobb said: "Most of our volunteers are from the emergency services so I thought it was an apt name."

But former Olympian Steve Cram says he has concerns about the conditions the group could face.
