Charlotte Blackman landslip death: Family collects Derby degree

Charlotte Blackman achieved a First Class Honours in her Education Studies degree

The parents and fiancé of a woman killed in a landslide at a beach in Dorset have collected her posthumous degree from the University of Derby.

Charlotte Blackman, 22, of Heanor, Derbyshire, died when a 160ft (50m) cliff near Burton Bradstock collapsed in July.

Miss Blackman was awarded a First Class honours degree in Education Studies.

Her parents Kevin and Rachel Blackman and fiancé Matthew Carnell attended the ceremony earlier.

'Significant' achievement

Fiona Shelton, senior lecturer in Education Studies at the University of Derby, said: "Charlotte was an excellent student throughout her time at Derby.

"As well as achieving a First Class Honours degree she made a significant contribution to life on the course, and was well liked and respected by students and staff alike.

"The University and staff from Charlotte's course are very proud to be able to honour Charlotte's achievement."

At the inquest in December, the Dorset coroner recorded an accidental death from an "act of nature".

He said no-one could have predicted what would happen.

Miss Blackman was on holiday with her fiancé and family at the nearby Freshwater Holiday Park at the time of the accident.
