Patrols stepped up at Derbyshire beauty spot

Patrols at a Derbyshire woodland are being stepped up after quad and scrambler bikers damaged wildlife and trees.

The Forestry Commission is working with Derbyshire Police to stop the bikers in Robin Wood near Ticknall.

Police said the bikes were dangerous to walkers and visitors and said the wood was "strictly off limits" for motorised vehicles.

Anyone who sees bikers in the wood is asked to contact police.

Alan Dowell from the Forestry Commission said: "Robin Wood is an important beauty spot with roots going back many centuries.

"There is very good reason why we don't allow unauthorised motorised vehicles on Forestry Commission land - they can be a menace to the environment and to other woodland users."

PC Chris Fearn said: "Anyone found riding in the wood will be dealt with and machines seized by police on the spot."
