Derby car gun attack pair jailed
Police said the attack by Darren Lawrence and Joel Knighton was 'incredibly frightening' for the victims
Two men have been jailed after a gun was fired at a parked car in Derby.
Darren Lawrence, 25, Bembridge Drive, Alvaston, and Joel Knighton, 24, of Elton Road, Derby, admitted possessing a firearm and criminal damage.
Derby Crown Court heard last November a woman living on Welshpool Road awoke to find her car's windscreen and headlight had been shot out.
Lawrence was sentenced to six years and three months while Knighton was given five years and three months.
Police said checks on CCTV led to the arrests of five men but the others were released without charge.
Det Con Yvette Sharpe said: "This was a very serious offence which was incredibly frightening for the victim, her family and the community.
"After a lengthy, detailed investigation I am pleased that both offenders have now admitted their guilt and have been sentenced accordingly by the court to reflect the severity of the crime."
The incident was investigated as part of Operation Redshank, which was set up to tackle gun and gang crime in Derby.
