Derbyshire scrap metal dealer crackdown
Vehicles have been seized in a crackdown on neighbourhood scrap metal dealers, Derbyshire Police have said.
Nineteen spot checks last week saw nine vehicles taken off the road and 10 people fined £300 each for having incorrect paperwork.
Officers said it followed concerns from residents that collectors were causing a noise nuisance with loud hailers or taking items without permission.
Two sets of loud hailers were also seized, police said.
Ilkeston, Long Eaton, Chaddesden, Hartshorne and Newhall were among the places where metal dealers were stopped and questioned.
Offences included driving without licences or insurance and vehicles with mechanical defects.
Officers also handed out information sheets which set out the law surrounding collecting metal, including the fact it is illegal to use loud hailers for advertising entertainment, trade or business.
