Long Eaton water supply problems cause school closures

Two Derbyshire schools sent pupils home and closed because of problems with the water supply.

A spokesperson from Severn Trent Water said supplies in the NG10 Long Eaton area were disrupted by a problem with an inlet valve.

Grange Primary and Sawley Junior schools closed at midday due to a lack of water and toilet facilities.

Severn Trent Water has apologised and said supplies should be returning to normal.

The firm said about 16,000 residents in the NG10 area may have experienced low pressure or disruption to their water supplies.

Public toilets in Long Eaton had to close and West Park Leisure Centre cancelled its swimming sessions.

A water inlet valve regulates the amount of water supplied from a reservoir. If it stops working correctly, water supplies can be reduced or blocked.
