A Bafta-winning actress charged with racially aggravated assault has appeared in court.

Lauren Socha, who won a Bafta for her role as Kelly Bailey in the Channel 4 TV series Misfits, is alleged to have attacked a taxi driver in Derby in October.

Ms Socha, 21, of Littleover, pleaded not guilty to the charge at Derby Crown Court.

Her trial is expected to take place in April.

Ms Socha won Best Supporting Actress at the Baftas in 2011 for her role in the comedy-drama.

She beat Jessie Wallace, Lynda Baron and Gillian Anderson to the prize.

Ms Socha trained at the Television Workshop in Nottingham before her breakthrough performance as a 16-year-old girl in a care home in Channel 4 drama The Unloved, for which she won a Bafta nomination in 2010.
