    Vandals have started a series of fires in gardens in Chesterfield over the past week, police say.

    Trees and bushes have been set on fire at five homes in the Boythorpe area since Thursday.

    A mother from Derby is in desperate need of a kidney transplant so she can get married and watch her three children grow up, reports today's Derby Telegraph.

    The paper says Sarah Duffey, from Woodville, has already had to cancel her wedding twice through illness.

    Horse protest 1130:

    Campaign group Animal Aid plans to stage a protest at Uttoxeter Racecourse this afternoon over the death of racehorses at the ground, reports BBC Radio Derby.

    Two horses have died at the course this year, but managers say all its races meet strict safety standards.

    Rolls-Royce says it has signed a deal worth more than £500m with SriLankan Airlines, reports Reuters.

    The order will see it providing engines for 10 aircraft, including four Airbus A350-900s.

    Local government minister Brandon Lewis called for "greater transparency" from local authorities after learning Derbyshire County Council was refusing to disclose how much it spent on replacing its chief executive.

    Dog walker assaulted 1044:

    An attacker punched a man in the face and kicked his dog in Swadlincote's Eureka Park, police have said.

    The 69-year-old said he was attacked by a boy aged about 15-17 at 18:40 on Friday.

    Severn Trent says it is not expecting to impose any water restrictions this summer, reports BBC East Midlands Today.

    The firm says supplies in the region are healthy for this time of year following a rainy May.

    Festival moves 0943:

    Ian Smith, founder of The Gilbert and Sullivan Festival, told BBC Radio Derby he was moving the event from Buxton because of a lack of support from High Peak Borough Council.

    The authority said it was "bewildered" by the decision but said the financial pressures faced by all councils meant they had to consider the cash grant given to the festival.

    Derbyshire County Council leader Anne Western has defended her decision not to divulge how much severance pay was given to the authority's outgoing chief executive Nick Hodgson, who is being replaced.
