The archbishop met members of the public during a walkabout
The Archbishop of Canterbury has begun a three-day visit to Derbyshire with a tour of the University of Derby's multi-faith centre.
Dr Rowan Williams then met members of the public in a walkabout on Normanton Road in Derby before joining a debate at Pride Park stadium.
The weekend visit was also due to include appearances in Bakewell, Ashbourne and at Derby Cathedral.
The Bishop of Derby said he had tried to organise a wide variety of events.
Dr Alastair Redfern said: "We have put together a programme which we think truly reflects the variety and diversity of life in the Diocese."
