A former England under-20 footballer has been arrested on suspicion of possessing cocaine.

Nathan Doyle, who plays for Championship team Barnsley, was stopped with two other men by police on Osmaston Road, Derby, on Monday.

Officers searched an Audi and found a substance which they believed to be the class A drug.

The 23-year-old midfielder and the two other men were interviewed and released on bail.

A spokeswoman for Derbyshire Police said: "Two men from Derby aged 24 and one from Hull who is 23 years old were interviewed and released on police bail pending further inquiries and analysis of the suspected drug."

Doyle, who also played for Derby County, was permanently signed to Barnsley earlier this year after leaving Hull City in 2009 on loan.
