A 38-year-old man had to be rescued after becoming stranded in the Peak District.

The man had climbed a rock spire in an area known as Jacob's Ladder, near Edale, but had been unable to get down as night fell on Monday.

The Derby Mountain Rescue Team located the man, with the help of a police helicopter, and helped him abseil to the foot of the rock.

He was then treated by paramedics at the Dovedale car park.

A spokesperson for the mountain rescue team said it was the fifth incident that the team has attended in a week after a relatively quiet start to the summer.
