Derby City Council votes to support £1.5m in cuts

Derby City Council's cabinet has agreed to proposals to cut city spending by £1.5m.

The authority is trying to balance its budget after £2m in funding and £1m in capital programmes were cut by Whitehall in June.

Cutbacks are planned for transport and children's' projects.

The cabinet said the scale and cost of every council service will be reviewed by the autumn, with much deeper cuts to be made later in the year.

Trade union representatives at the meeting said they were worried that the cuts would result in hundreds of redundancies.
