Soldier dead and two injured at Cumbria Army base

A soldier has died and two others have been injured at an Army training centre in Cumbria.

The incident is believed to have involved a vehicle which rolled over at the Army's Warcop Training Centre, near Appleby.

A British Army spokesman confirmed there had been one fatality and two others had been injured.

A spokesman for the North West Ambulance Service said the soldier was declared dead on arrival.

One patient was treated at the scene and a third, a male aged 19, was flown to the James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough with chest and back injuries. He is said to be in a stable condition.

The Army said an investigation has begun.
