Plans to build a £1.4m five-a-side football complex in Carlisle have been submitted.

Soccerworld wants to build a number of indoor pitches and an all-weather pitch at the site on Rome Street.

The centre, which is expected to create about 20 jobs, would also include a pavilion and bar and a car park.

Managing director, Barry McDermott, said it would be a "valuable asset" for the community and they are "hopeful" the application will be granted.

Carlisle City Council are expected to make a decision about the plans in July.

Mr McDermott said construction work will begin by the end of the year if the plans are given the go-ahead.
