Cumbria's B5289 partially reopens after emergency repairs

Barriers on a road Saturated foundations collapsing under the road led to it being closed

One lane of the road from Keswick to Borrowdale has reopened after weeks of repairs to damage caused by heavy rain.

The foundations beneath the B5289 near Watendlath became saturated and crumbled closing the route.

But Cumbria County Council said its staff had "worked round the clock" to fix the road since it shut on 10 February.

On Monday, one lane will reopen with traffic control measures in place while repairs are completed.
