Cumbria snowfall: Blocked roads reopened

Work has been carried out to clear many roads in Cumbria blocked by snow.

The Highways Agency said staff worked through the night to unblock the A66 near Brough between the A685 and A67 and the snow gates used to stop drivers using the road have been reopened.

Cumbria Police asked motorists to drive only if necessary.

Two lanes of the M6 southbound near Southwaite Services were closed for a time after a vehicle jack-knifed in icy conditions.

The Wrynose Pass between the Little Langdale and the Cockley Beck junctions has been cleared and reopened.

The A5092 in Penny Bridge has also reopened in both directions between the A5084 and the A590 junctions.
