A man has been arrested after a woman's car was stolen at gunpoint and then used as the getaway vehicle in an armed robbery in Cumbria, police have said.
The Vauxhall Corsa was taken from George Street, Wigton at about 13:00 GMT and, an hour later, a woman in Kirkbride Post Office was threatened by a man with a firearm.
Police said the women were not injured.
Following a police pursuit on the A596, a 19-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of robbery.
A Cumbria Constabulary spokesman said armed officers, helped by the National Police Air Service, had pursued the car at "high speed" along the road A596 towards Maryport.
He said a stinger device had been used to stop the car between Prospect and Aspatria, where the road was closed to allow forensic investigations.
Officers recovered a firearm and a quantity of money from the car.
Supt Andrew Towler said that such incidents were "thankfully rare in Cumbria".
