Ten arrests over Carlisle firefighter bonfire attack
Ten people have been arrested after stones and fireworks were thrown at emergency services staff in Carlisle.
Police officers and firefighters came under attack on Tuesday while dismantling a bonfire built around a shelter on Dowbeck Road.
No-one was injured but a police car was damaged, and the partially-demolished bonfire was lit, damaging the shelter.
The following day 10 males aged between 16 and 25 were arrested on suspicion violent disorder and criminal damage.
Police were initially called to reports that the bonfire was about to be lit.
It was built around a youth shelter - a structure where young people can gather, with the aim of keeping them out of trouble.
A Cumbria Police spokesman said: "We are very disappointed that a small minority of people saw fit to attack the police and fire service in this way, when they were simply acting to ensure the safety of local people and property."
