George Atkinson named as A596 crash death pensioner

An 88-year-old man who died after a crash in Cumbria has been named.

George Atkinson from Thursby died in hospital after his car and a heavy goods vehicle collided on the A596 at Wigton at about 10:45 BST on Friday.

The driver of the heavy goods vehicle, a man aged in his 60s from Silloth, was uninjured.

Mr Atkinson, who was a father, grandfather and great grandfather, will be "sadly missed", his family said.
