Land found for new Barrow police station

Plans to build a new £8.5m police station in Cumbria are under way after land for the new site was found.

Cumbria Police Authority said the existing station in Barrow last year was "below acceptable standards".

The authority has to make £20m in savings by 2014, but said the condition of the site meant the building of a new station was essential.

It is hoped the station, which will be built on Andrews Way, will be fully operational by early 2015.
