A mother has been arrested on suspicion of child neglect after her two-year-old daughter was found abandoned in Cumbria.

The girl was found at 23:00 GMT on Thursday after officers were called to Warwick Road, Carlisle.

Police found the child in a pram after they were called to reports of a woman ringing a doorbell on the street.

A 41-year-old woman is being questioned by detectives. The girl is "safe and well", police said.

Police had earlier appealed for the girl's mother to contact them.
