Driver arrested after Eamont Bridge fatal crash

A man died when a car hit a tree near a village in Cumbria.

Robin Hewitt was a rear seat passenger in a BMW travelling on the B5320 at Eamont Bridge, near Penrith, just before 23:30 GMT on Thursday.

The 19-year-old, of Milner Mount, Penrith, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver and another passenger were taken to hospital for treatment.

Cumbria Police said the 23-year-old driver was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

They said he would be interviewed when he is released from hospital.
