Thief Brian Brand gets eight months for 100th crime

A 34-year-old man from Carlisle has been jailed for eight months after being convicted of his 100th crime.

Judge Paul Batty QC told Brian Brand that his criminal record was "quite appalling" for someone so young, when he appeared at Carlisle Crown Court.

Brand pleaded guilty to theft after stealing five bottles of shampoo and three bottles of spirits from a shop.

The hearing heard Brand, of Blackwell Close, had been under a suspended jail sentence when he committed the crime.

The suspended sentence was for stealing £800-worth of golf clubs after breaking into a lock-up garage in Stanwix, Carlisle, the court heard.
