A man whose girlfriend was found dead in a Cumbria lane has been charged with causing her death by dangerous driving.

The body of Rose-Marie Valente, 49, of Bingley, was discovered on Swindale Grange Lane, Brough, in February 2012.

John Dent, of Swindale Grange, Brough, had denied causing her death while driving without due care and attention.

The 49-year-old appeared at Carlisle Crown Court charged with the more serious offence, which he denies, and has been bailed until 9 July.

Mother-of-five Ms Valente, of Woodside Crescent, Bingley, West Yorkshire, was found dead near Mr Dent's home, early on the morning of 27 February.

The court heard that she had spent the weekend with Mr Dent, with whom she had been in a relationship for about 10 years.
