Cumbria road deaths and injuries fall

The number of people killed or badly hurt on Cumbria's roads has fallen to its lowest level since monitoring began 12 years' ago.

In 2012, there were 30 fatalities, and 164 cases of serious injury the Cumbria Road Safety Partnership has revealed.

The combined total of 194 compares to totals of 493 in 2000 and 249 in 2011.

The partnership described the reduction as "fantastic" and said it was finalising a safety plan for the coming year.
