Cumbria drivers warned over snowy weather

Drivers have been warned to take care in snow and ice on roads across Cumbria.

The Met Office has issued a yellow alert, with heavier snow and strong winds predicted later and conditions on higher ground expected to worsen later.

Cumbria County Council has treated all major routes, as well as some minor roads which are not routinely gritted.

Highways teams are also on standby to switch from routine maintenance work to snow clearance duties

Police have advised motorists to drive appropriately for the conditions.
