Man dies in Lake District fall

A man has died in a fall from a Lake District fell.

Members of Kendal and Langdale Ambleside Mountain Rescue Teams were called on Saturday afternoon.

They said a group went off its route because of a navigational error and found themselves on steep ground on the east face of Crinkle Crags.

The man's body was recovered and the rest of the group was helped down. The teams described it as a "difficult" operation in deteriorating weather.

A helicopter from RAF Valley was called to assist but was hampered by the low cloud and the wind conditions.
