A burst main has closed a north Cumbria school and left about 280 homes without water.
Homes in Boothby between Lanercost and Brampton have been affected, a spokesman for United Utilities said.
Water supplies were expected to be restored to most homes by Thursday evening.
Lees Hill Primary closed early as a result and United Utilities has apologised for the disruption caused by the burst pipe.
Hospital cuts orthopaedic surgery
Complex orthopaedic surgery will no longer be carried out at Whitehaven's Cumberland Hospital.
