A man was arrested and an air rifle recovered following a disturbance in Whitehaven, Cumbria.
Officers were called to Meadow View at 07:45 BST after reports that an armed man was threatening workmen from his house.
The surrounding area was sealed off for more than two-and-a-half hours as a precaution.
A 52-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of possessing a firearm in a public place, and later bailed.

A Cumbrian man who smothered his mother to death and then claimed she told him to kill her is jailed.
