Durranhill police station evacuated over dynamite

A police station in Carlisle was evacuated after a member of the public handed in a stick of dynamite.

Durranhill Police station was evacuated and the roads surrounding the station were closed.

The dynamite was left in the station for an Army explosive disposal team from Catterick to deal with.

It is thought the dynamite belonged to a recently deceased relative of the person who handed it in. The relative was licensed to keep it.

A spokesman for Cumbria Police said there was no immediate risk to the public and services were not affected.
