Dementia care grants awarded by Cumbria County Council
Grants of up to £20,000 have been given to independent care homes in Cumbria to improve dementia care facilities.
The funding, from Cumbria County Council, is part of a £1m scheme to help care homes to train staff and improve services.
It estimates there are approximately 7,000 people living with dementia in Cumbria and expects this to almost double to 13,000 by 2030.
Homes must match the grants from their own funds.
Councillor James Airey, Cumbria County Council's cabinet member for adult social care, said: "In Cumbria we're facing the challenge of an ageing population and an increase in those diagnosed with dementia.
"We want to support people to remain in their own homes where appropriate and improve access to specialist care for those most in need."
