The son of a 77-year-old Cumbrian woman found dead at her home has appeared in court charged with her murder.

Jane Archbold, a retired vet, was found injured in her home in Outgate, south of Ambleside, on Tuesday night.

Police said she had been assaulted and died despite efforts by the ambulance service to resuscitate her.

Her son, Robert Adam Archbold, who lives at the same address, appeared before Barrow magistrates on Friday and was remanded in custody for a week.

No plea was entered.
