Carlisle sex assault: Hire van driver may be witness

The driver of a hire van seen near the location of a serious sexual assault on a woman in Carlisle is being sought by police as a potential witness.

The 21-year-old woman was attacked between midnight and 00:10 BST on 20 June near Blackfriars Street after leaving a city centre nightclub.

Cumbria police say CCTV film shows a Thrifty hire van driving along the same street at about the same time.

A 34-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of rape.

He has been bailed until 14 July.

Police are appealing for anyone who may have seen or heard anything suspicious in the area to come forward.
