Wind farm plans near Kendal have support, says company

Lambrigg wind farm opened in 2000 with five, 74m (243ft) high turbines

A proposed wind farm in Cumbria has "significant" support, the energy firm Banks Renewables says.

The company wants to put up five, 135m (443ft) high turbines between Kendal and Sedbergh, next to the M6 motorway.

It exhibited the plans at Killington, the nearest village to the site, and said residents had expressed "a range of opinion" at the event.

A group opposing the scheme, Fells, said the site is not suitable and there is already a wind farm nearby.

A wind farm at Lambrigg, on the other side of the motorway, was built in 2000 by a different company.

Banks Renewables said its new development would generate enough electricity for nearly ten thousand homes.
