Cumbrian arts venue Lanternhouse closes
A charity arts venue in Cumbria has closed due to cuts in funding from Arts Council England.
Lanternhouse is a registered charity running from a base at The Ellers in Ulverston, housing community art exhibitions.
Opened in 1999, the venue ceased trading on Friday in order for the charity to consider future possibilities and options.
John Fox, the charity's former artistic director, said it was "immensely sad".
The closure of the venue was announced in February.
Lanternhouse said it will try to ensure some community arts projects survive and become a lasting legacy in Ulverston.
Mr Fox said: "It's immensely sad, it's a wonderful building and a wonderful place for creating participatory and celebratory art and to see it go dark is really sad indeed.
"People could come here they could feel safe and create art... it became a whole partnership for artists and the town of Ulverston."
