A woman has died following a suspected arson attack at her home in Cumbria.

Stacey Mackie, 35, suffered serious burns and was taken to the burns unit at Wythenshawe Hospital, Manchester, where she died.

Emergency services were called to Crag View, Kendal, at 00:05 GMT, and police have launched a murder investigation.

A 61-yr-old man from Kendal was earlier arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and arson with intent to endanger life.

He is being treated at the Furness General Hospital in Cumbria.

The building is a home for vulnerable adults run by Home Group based in Newcastle.

Rachael Byrne, Home Group executive director of care and support, said: "We are deeply shocked and saddened at the death of Stacey Mackie.

"Stacey had been a resident at our Crag View property for the past 18 months and was greatly liked by staff and her fellow clients.

"As the police are actively pursuing a murder investigation, we are unable to provide further comment."
