A Cumbria detective accused of abusing his position has admitted having sex with the victim of an alleged attack, a court has heard.

Det Con Mark Fisher is on trial at Carlisle Crown Court accused of nine counts of misconduct in public office.

The 49-year-old, of Cockermouth, denies all the charges.

He told the court he had wanted to help the woman, claiming she was in love with him, but that he had "just wanted sex" and had made mistakes.

He also admitted that he had shown the woman a photograph of another woman suspected of attacking her, even though no arrests had been made.

He said he had shown her the photograph because the woman had been afraid of meeting her attacker on the street, the hearing was told.

Giving evidence, Det Con Fisher said: "She said she wanted to know what she looked like so she could avoid her.

"I accept I have made a mistake there. I should not have done it."

He added: "She was in love with me but for me it was just sex."

The trial continues.
